As new variants of viruses evolved, we get to wonder when this pandemic will come to an end? Will we ever see our colleagues again physically? Nowadays, everything is becoming virtual, our workroom occupying our haven — our home. After a year of doing work from home grinds, things start to change. You consider the environment you’re in and the mental state it provides; often, it oversteps the boundaries between work and personal wellness.

So what possible options can we have during this pandemic? Indeed, the government has now allowed employees to return to their workplace yet it is capped at 50% of the original capacity. Safe physical distancing still needs to be observed, and Pre-Event Testing (PET) is necessary for the unvaccinated. Working from home may be the thing for now, but brainstorming is still best done face-to-face for meetings: sitting around a table, laying all the ideas without any interruptions from unwanted circumstances. I guess shared office space can do the job.

So, what is a shared office space?

Shared office space, or what other calls coworking space, depicts from the word itself. It is a space where people share office spaces no matter what industry you are in, as long as it serves to share the infrastructure to other individuals: such as equipment, amenities, and other services. It is even far better off than leasing office space in many ways:

1. You are not tied for at least five years.

Normally, renting a lease space has a set of contracts for a minimum of 5 years, depending on the property owner’s discretion. Having it compared to a shared office space in Singapore, you may rent a space daily, weekly, or even monthly, whichever suits your needs.

2. It’s people-centric.

Most shared office spaces are designed according to a professional’s needs, whether as an individual or as a group. It gives a kind of atmosphere where one can interact with other people of different sectors. It provides a purpose of connecting or expanding your network. Having that human element in a workspace creates a diversified impact compared to working at home or being stuck in an office.

3. You don’t have to plan out the whole floor.

When renting a lease office or space most often than not, you get it bare and do things all from square 1. Whereas shared office space is readily available according to your needs: from furniture down to appliances, electronics you have to use. Just go, move in, and start your workload.

4. May help entice your mind with fresh ideas.

There are occasions where being in a place for a long time, seeing the same things all over again, pretty much loses the creativity in oneself. Sometimes we need to be in a place where just solitude boosts imagination, a place where the scenery catapult innovation, or somewhere you can get lax and fresh idea pops up. With shared office space, you may choose which part of the building you want to lounge on. May it be a cityscape or just a pod that invites your creativity.

Shared office space may be categorized into four different kinds.

1. Day Pass

Perfect for meeting gatherings when you want it done outside of your company’s office or if you need to engage with people connected to your line of business, then this is the best option. It runs for the whole day to meet your business needs.

2. Hot Desks

Hot desks are ideal for people who are just starting a business. This is something like you come, and you go. You cant leave any personal belonging as another person may use the space once you leave. This is perfect if you want a day off from working at home, totally away from any form of distraction.

3. Dedicated Desk

On the other hand, a Dedicated Desk is the opposite of a hot desk, just like what the term suggests. It is dedicated to you. You’ve got complete privacy devoted solely to your use. So if you plan to rent out for a week, then this is the best option.

4. Private Office

If your objective is to operate an office for at least a month or if you don’t plan to do it in a long-term setting, this will work out for you. You’ve got the amenities, the workstations you’ll need, some perks such as complimentary snacks and beverages.

The verdict.

As things go digital nowadays, we can say that the future setup for offices is heading towards shared office spaces. Shared office spaces in Singapore has emerged immensely. Each coworking space caters differently to the needs of a person or an organization renting it. Just, for example, Ucommune, they have set up each of their coworking spaces strategically in terms of location, it is all accessible by rapid transits. It is ideal for people who commute, and since the site can be easily spotted, it signifies more potential for business allocation. A great place to invest should you go for a private office, or if you just happened to drop by, then a day pass or hot desking will do the thing.
